Citizen Science
It isn’t necessary to hold a degree in some environmental studies program to become a good “citizen scientist.” In fact, most AIS (aquatic invasive species) infestations are first reported by individuals just enjoying their favorite lake. By observing, noting, and studying what they see, lake residents can act as a first line of defense in protecting Minnesota’s lakes and streams. With the wealth of knowledge available literally at our fingertips on the internet, everyone can become a steward of our lakes.
